OpenAI has introduced a new voice model called GPT-Live, which lets ChatGPT listen and speak at the same time. Older voice assistants usually waited for a person to finish talking before starting to respond.

GPT-Live works differently. It keeps processing what it hears while it is speaking, so it can react quickly, say small things like "mhmm" or "yeah," and even stay quiet when a person needs time to think.

For harder questions, such as ones that need web search or deep reasoning, GPT-Live quietly asks a stronger AI model for help in the background and brings the answer back into the conversation.
