Cloudflare, a company known for making websites run faster and more safely, has built a brand-new browser. It is called Kitesurf, and it is not made for humans. It is made for AI agents.
AI agents are computer programs that can browse the internet on their own, clicking buttons and reading pages just like a person would. Until now, most of these agents used Chromium, the same technology behind Google Chrome.
The problem is that Chromium was built for humans, with tabs, themes, and other features that AI agents simply do not need. This makes it slow and expensive for agents to use.
Kitesurf solves this problem by cutting out anything humans need and keeping only what agents need, like reading text and taking screenshots. As a result, it uses three to seven times less computer power than Chromium.
Of course, there is a trade-off. Kitesurf loads pages more slowly and does not work perfectly on every website yet. Still, it is free to use during its beta period, and Cloudflare plans to make the code open to the public in the future.
